House as a System (Preview Only)

To guarantee heating and cooling energy use in a home, you must understand exactly how every material or component effects the performance of every other component. That is the concept of "the house as a system." If your goal is to design and build a truly high-performance home, you must understand what this means.

This course looks at the house as a whole and at all the subsystems and components that make it up. The inter-relationships among all those subsystems and components will be examined. This sets the stage for a closer examination, in later courses, of how builders can best improve each subsystem and component that makes a contribution to the performance of the house as a system.
